One of the great aspects of dealing in estate jewellery is the numerous designers one sees over the years. The global economy and the access to the internet has made the industry so competitive that it is hard to distinguish yourself from the pack. That said, we would like to shed some light on someone who has done just that, Canada’s very own, John Hardy.

John Hardy graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design and like many after graduation, decided to travel. Stumbling upon the the Balinese people and their traditional jewellery making techniques, John was intrigued and decided to stay and soak up everything he could.
In 1975, John Hardy Jewelry was founded in Bali, integrating modern techniques with traditional ones to create a new style of jewellery. John Hardy decided to give up his jewellery designing in 2007 in lieu of setting up a sustainability school, ‘The Green School’, in Bali to concentrate his efforts on teaching and design. Even without his day to day involvement, John Hardy jewellery remains one of top Silver jewellery lines worldwide.

Guy Bedarida, a Place Vendôme senior designer, joined the Hardy team in 1999 making an instant impact. European techniques were added to the Hardy repertoire and new artistic motifs began to appear. Today, Hardy’s Bamboo and Dot collections are consistently among our favourites!
